Brad’s back from illness, spending the week knocked about while Viv looks after their daughter. Julian tours his dodgy loop before running a dodgy gear change session, then nailing the progression run on the Bellarine Rail Trail.Brady beats the traffic home on foot and finishes with a high fever and low iron, talking solutions and infusions.
Birmingham Diamond League was packed full of Australians, Stewy McSweyn headlining the Men’s 1500m with a second-place finish along Ryan Gregson, Matt Ramsden and Jordan Williamsz. Jamie Harrison is this week’s guest and the “Fun Run King” shares years of training diaries with Brad, going about getting his progression and breakthrough as a junior runner, coming fourth and running in the era of Mona, Deeks & Carroll. Jamie talks about why he preferred running track to the roads, racing on average once a week and training in the days before GPS watches, as well as the changes to the overall fun run scene and how elite runners dictate their race schedule now compared to his day. They also go in-depth into training as an elite runner while studying to become a doctor, competing as a masters runner while the body ages and how runners should deal with healing their injuries and who the best practitioner to see is.

Kelly Heatherington joins Brady about her career as an 800m and a wide range of topics, from how her relationship with her coach the late Maxine Corcoran formed her start in the sport, to how training for the 800m differs from long-distance running and changing coaches to Craig Mottram. Kelly talks about her days of racing the pro-circuit on a days notice and winning the 2013 800m national title and meeting an idol in Charlene Rendina and how she qualified for the World Championships in Moscow and the experiences she had on and off the track as well as her other highlights including running in the world relays in the Bahamas and the breaks from the sport that came with various injuries and illness. The Sunshine Coast Running Festival featured Jack Bruce & Natalie Rule winning the 10km race, while Japan’s Saeki Makino won the Marathon in a course record time of 2:16:18 over Nick Earl and Dion Finocchiaro, with Lydia O’Donnell also setting a course record in 2:41:14.
The main event saw Lisa set the all-comers record for the half marathon which doubles as the Australian Half Marathon Championship in 68:48 over Sinead Diver and Ellie Pashley, while controversy in the Men’s race saw a misdirected Jack Rayner disqualified, with line honours awarded to Kevin Batt over Louis McAffee.Full Sunshine Coast Marathon Results
Jack Rayner joins in to explain the situation with his disqualification, discussing his mindset throughout the race and how the organisers compensated for the mistake, before talking his future plans and previewing an imminent US marathon announcement.

Russel Dessaix-Chin joins friend and Sydney Uni teammate Brad for a chat about his long storied career that started back in school career, leading to numerous NSW state medals and a career built on consistency that saw him take national cross country titles. Russel goes though his training structure under coach Ken Greene, touring the European circuit and looking at his consistent 5000m performances as well as what held him back from the next breakthrough.
Russel talks changing coaches to Graham Ward and changing training structures that lead to his marathon debut in Hamburg, what the training and aspirations were in the lead up to the reality afterwards, followed up with history repeating itself in the Chicago marathon.
He then opens up with the accident in 2015 where he was struck by a car and dealing with the severity of the injury, coming to terms where it could leave his running career and working through the rehabilitation process.
Russel closes on his thoughts on making a comeback, competing as an open athlete vs. as a Masters the advice for up and coming athletes, looking back at his travels as a runner and his hopes for the future in the marathon.

Jessica Hull joins Brady to debrief her performance in the Pre Classic where she ran 4:02 in the 1500m in her debut race as a professional, going over mantras, training and tactics that lead to running her Tokyo Olympics Qualifier.
