Joel Tobin-White chats with Julian about some of the highlights of his running career, including last year’s 62-minute run at the 2019 Marugame Half. Joel talks about how he got into athletics and running before starting out as a professional triathlete, giving insight into what it takes to live and train at the top level. After transitioning out of triathlon, Joel goes into his comeback to running, how he sees himself making the Olympics in the future and what he expects in lining up for the London Marathon this year. He goes into his various bouts with injuries over the last few years and opens up about his creative pursuits outside of running including his acting role in the upcoming Korean production “Road To Boston”.

Jaryd Clifford returns from a successful campaign at the World Parathletic Championships in Dubai, joining Brady to talk about what his visual impairment is and how the classification system works as well as his various training camps in Flagstaff and Barcelona.
They talk about the different experiences of racing on the track and cross country, how the Victorian XCR season played a role in the lead up to Dubai while Jaryd dealt with putting pressure and expectations on himself.
Jaryd throughout emphasises the team behind him that brought him to success, especially the role that his friend Tim Logan played in training and racing with a tether, how para-athletics is growing each year in the public consciousness and gives his take on the general state of athletics, how planning for Tokyo and the year ahead presents challenges.

Youcef Abdi picks off from last week recounting his bronze medal performance at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in the 1500m in detail. After going through his personal bests, Youcef talks about what led to his transition from the 1500m to Steeplechase after the campaign for the 2004 Athens Olympics, addressing the challenges in combining hurdling with raw speed. Brad asks about training in Eldoret, Kenya at the time of their elections in the lead up to Beijing 2008 Olympics and Youcef then talks about his 6th place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics before retiring after the London 2012 Olympics, giving insight for what he attributes to having a resilient and durable running career. American invitational athlete Sam Ellis won the Men’s racing, leaving Rorey Hunter and James Hansen to split the Australian title.Results
 
This week is the first part with decorated steeplechaser, middle distance runner and Olympian Youcef Abdi, talking with Brad about how running took him from Algeria to Australia. Recounting his days playing soccer in their village, Youcef talks about what his inspirations for getting into athletics leading him to representing Algeria for the 1500m in the 1996 World Junior Championships in Athletics held in Sydney. After the event, Youcef explored his options in his life and decided to make the move to Australia to pursue a career in athletics the transition, navigating accommodation, finding employment and visas to ultimately becoming an Australian citizen in 2000.
After his citizenship Youcef recalls the infamous Sydney 2000 Olympic Trials 1500m race where Youcef was caught between Craig Mottram and Nick Howarth, the resulting re-run of that race while still pursuing an Olympic qualifying time. Rounding out this part of the interview Youcef shares with Brad his training structure in the early 2000s era, which emphasised on race-pace practice which earned him a Bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The boys are joined by Dom Godfrey to give a preview Steigen #1  at John Landy field on December 21 talking about the teams, coaches and most importantly the athletes set to star on an exciting new concept in athletics.
 
Listener question asks about whether the pathways from little athletics to seniors provides a clear enough direction to succeed in the current sporting landscape.
Steve Thurston recounts his lifetime trials and tribulations with Brad, talking about getting into running via cycling and holding the titles for the 1500m, 5000 and 3000m Steeplechase. Steve recounts the winning the Olympic trials Steeplechase for the Sydney Olympics, only to watch it from the sidelines explaining the selection process at the time and then his first major setback dealing with surgery and around osteitis pubis. Steve then talks about his comeback, running on the roads and gearing up to run the Gold Coast Marathon in 2012 before talking openly about his battle with testicular cancer, heart and mental issues while celebrating the birth of his son, putting his running career on hold again, all the while imploring the importance of reaching out for support when it’s needed. In the next chapter of his life, Steve finds motivation in doing the Kokoda Track before joining Team Tempo and getting his fitness back on track to make his debut at the Melbourne Marathon in 2:26, closing with his observations on the running culture of South Australia.
