Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia set a marathon World Record of 2:11:53 at the Berlin Marathon, shattering the previous mark by splitting halfway at 66:20 before coming home in a 65:33 second half. Tigst finished well clear of podium-getters Sheila Chepkirui 2:17:48 of Kenya and Magdalena Shauri 2:18:41 of Tanzania.Eliud Kipchoge won his 5th Berlin Marathon in 2:02:42 in familiar fashion, ahead of the debuting duo Vincent Kipkemboi of Kenya and Tadese Takele of Ethiopia. Othmane El Goumri of Morocco was the winner of the Sydney Marathon in 2:08:20 ahead of Kenyan Laban Korir in 2:08:43 and Getanah Tamire of Ethiopia in 2:11:20. The XCR23 Ekiden Relay was held at St Anne’s Winery, Myrniong and the Men’s Premier Division was won by Bendigo Region ahead of Western Athletics and Glenhuntly. As of the conclusion of Day 2 of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary Jessica Hull has advanced to the 1500m Final. Linden Hall and Abbey Caldwell reached the semi finals with Abbey running a personal best of 3:59.79.Adam Spencer and Matt Ramsden both made it to the Semi Finals, with Matt getting tangled up in his heat while Stewart McSweyn was unable to place out of the Heats stage.Joshua Cheptegei won his third consecutive 10000m World Championship in a time of 27:51.42 to just hold off Daniel Ebenyo of Kenya and Selemon Barega of Ethiopia. Sunshine Coast Half Marathon hosted the National Half Marathon Championship which was won by Gen Gregson in 1:10:18, just ahead of Ellie Pashley in 1:10:21 with Sinead Noonan third in 1:13:30. Liam Adams won the Half Marathon Championship in 1:02:55 over Andy Buchanan in 1:03:13 and Ryan Gregson in 1:04:08. The marathon was won by Jason Hunt in 2:28:57 and Beth McKenzie 2:39:52.
