This week’s guest is police officer and former professional triathlete Peter Kerr talking with Julian about how to balance working the night shift with training and the benefits of escaping winter to Noosa.Peter explains how he was able to perform at the Oceania and Australia championships while how the Olympic team selection before going over how he met Julian and background into triathlon while being a Lee Troop lookalike as well as his strengths and weaknesses as a triathlete. They go through the running potential of triathletes on the scene, the cultural differences and similarities between runners and triathletes, the appeals of short triathlon courses and running as well as how his low-volume, high-quality approach to training works and how the Geelong 70.3 marked the transition into focusing on running. Pete ends with explaining why the funding structure between running and triathlon is so different before closing out with how long rides played a role in aerobic development they recount their duel at Great Ocean Road Marathon 2018 and taking out the win in 2019.

Russel Dessaix-Chin joins friend and Sydney Uni teammate Brad for a chat about his long storied career that started back in school career, leading to numerous NSW state medals and a career built on consistency that saw him take national cross country titles. Russel goes though his training structure under coach Ken Greene, touring the European circuit and looking at his consistent 5000m performances as well as what held him back from the next breakthrough.
Russel talks changing coaches to Graham Ward and changing training structures that lead to his marathon debut in Hamburg, what the training and aspirations were in the lead up to the reality afterwards, followed up with history repeating itself in the Chicago marathon.
He then opens up with the accident in 2015 where he was struck by a car and dealing with the severity of the injury, coming to terms where it could leave his running career and working through the rehabilitation process.
Russel closes on his thoughts on making a comeback, competing as an open athlete vs. as a Masters the advice for up and coming athletes, looking back at his travels as a runner and his hopes for the future in the marathon.

Jessica Hull joins Brady to debrief her performance in the Pre Classic where she ran 4:02 in the 1500m in her debut race as a professional, going over mantras, training and tactics that lead to running her Tokyo Olympics Qualifier. Jessica explains the process of turning pro and signing with the agency totalsportsus and then talks about her storied NCAA career, from choosing the University of Oregon and getting into the NCAA system, training in Oregon and having unfettered access to facilities and resources, while getting recognition to balancing her academics and sport.

Bernard talks about his extensive career covering the goal to make the podium in the 1500m for the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, racing El Gourrouj and trying to replicate the success at Zurich at the Athens for Silver. Bernard recounts his long career starting with athletic family and the influence they had and the significance of the family record in the marathon. They chat about switching allegiances from Kenya to USA and a typical training week for the 1500m before dealing with the challenges for the 2008 Olympics running with Achilles problems in the 1500m and 5000m, then attempting to transition to the 10000m for 2016 before focusing on the 5000m.
Bernard share his special relationship with his coach James Li and stepping up to the marathon after Rio Olympics and what the tactics were ahead of choosing and racing the Gold Coast Marathon and his history with Eliud Kipchoge, giving his thoughts on the future track and field before fielding some audience questions including what he learnt from New York City Marathon and the best piece of advice he’s been given.

With Gold Coast Marathon next week, the boys close with their final predictions.
Eloise Wellings and Brad pick up from last week, heading into 2012 after the heartbreak of 2008 and talk about meeting Julius Achon from Uganda learning about his story and how it started Love Mercy. She shares how training with Julius, getting in rest days and less training days lead to winning Zatopek 2009 
Eloise eventually made it to the Olympics and talks about the differences in training and preparation for London in 2012 and Rio in 2016 and how their performances differed and being in the state of flow for the Rio 10000m. Eloise also compares the Olympics and Commonwealth games and her life changing before and after becoming a mum.
She talks about her coaching under Nic Bideau in terms of session structure and mileage management, before talking about what the mission and programs of her foundation Lover Mercy do in Northern Uganda, the impact she’s had as a role model and who she takes inspiration from, her activities post Gold Coast Comm Games and making the move towards the marathon and what it means being a Shire girl.

A big discussion is around women runners dealing with harassment and criminal incidents, with Sophie sharing some difficult experiences, how she and her family worked through it and what actions that both women and men need to be doing to ensure better runner safety. 
The show ends on a positive note, giving a preview the elite women’s field at Gold Coast Marathon doubling as the Oceania Marathon Championships featuring the likes of Milly Clark and Mel Panayiatou before discussing the other events and what Sophie and Ellie plan for the week ahead.
