Julian continues to train with Ellie and considers different approaches to marathon training.Brady jogs through the week in managing a sore hamstring.Brad has his best week of the year jogging through the rain at Mulligan’s.
Jess Hull joins the podcast to recap her performances at the National Track & Field Championships up at Brisbane, winning both the 1500m and 5000m National Titles, adding to the 3000m Championship won at the Sydney Track Classic. Jess talks about race tactics of both races as well as the training setup while she’s in Australia and the support she gets from her dad. Conversation rounds out with her plans and goals for the year ahead.
Jessica Hull won the Women’s 1500m in a meet record of 4:04.19, taking the win ahead of Abby Caldwell and Linden Hall. Callum Davies over Cam Myers and Matt Ramsden
Jessica Hull backed up by also dominating the 5000m ahead of Rose Davies and Leanne Pompeani. Callum Davies also won a second national title in the Men’s 5000m in a tight contest, just ahead of Jack Bruce and James Hansen.
Catriona Bisset won the 800m title in 1:58.32 over Ellie Sanford. Riley McGowan won the men’s 800m.
Ben Buckingham took the national Steeplechase title edging over Matt Clarke to even the ledger from the Brisbane Track Classic. Cara Feain-Ryan took the title over Georgia Winkcup in a dramatic finish.

277: 2023 World Cross Country Championships Bathurst
Brad puts his biggest week on the comeback trail and gets super inspired by the weekend.Julian puts his finishing touches on his Osaka Marathon prep then coaches Ellie from the sidelines.Brady races a deep field in the Golden Ticket Race, then makes Saturday the new Sunday.
The eve of the World Cross Country Championships held the Golden Ticket Races, with the first seven finishers of the 6km race given the opportunity to race in the World Champion Race, Sarah Klein and Andre Waring taking top honours. Andre was subsequently placed in the Australia team with Matt Ramsden withdrawing due to injury.Golden Ticket Race Results
On a mostly hot Saturday afternoon over a tough 2km course set on Mount Panorama/Wahluu, Bathurst the World Cross Country Championships returned after two years of delays. The day opened with the Mixed 4x2km Relay, where the highly-fancied Australian team of Oli Hoare, Jess Hull, Stewy McSweyn and Abby Caldwell took the bronze medal Kenya and Ethiopia took Gold and Silver respectively.Mixed Relay World Athletics ReportMixed Relay World Athletics Results
The U20 Women race saw a race of attrition as the hot weather and 6k course took a toll on the competitors with three Australians withdrawing from the race. Archie Noakes first Australian in 17th and the team scored sixth place.

Open Women saw Leanne Pompeani run off the lead pack, before Ellie Pashley ascended through the pack to finish as first Australia. Letesenbet Gidey stumbled and fell metres from the finish line after leading in the final stages, subsequently disqualified after receiving assistance to get back up as Beatrice Chebet of Kenya outkicked her to be crowned the new champion.
