Julian recaps his week leading to the Victorian XC Champs at Bundoora.Brad continues to rebuild post-marathon and starts to pivot in a new direction.Brady puts the finishes touches on the Johnno’s Run 10k in Echuca Moama before hitting 9th at Bundoora.
Continuing at the World Athletic Championships where Jessica Hull placed 7th in 4:01.82 and Georgia Griffith 9th in 4:03.26. Stewart McSweyn ran a seasonal best of 3:33.24, as Jake Wightman of Great Britain upset the favourite and Olympic Champion Jakob Ingebrigsten.
In the Women’s 5000m, Nat Rule was unable to finish her heat, while Rose Davies finished 15th overall with a time of 15:45.95, Jess Hull withdrew testing positive for covid following the 1500m final. The Final was won by Gudaf Tsegay, adding gold after her silver in the 1500m.The Men’s 5000m saw Ky Robinson post 13:27.03 in his heat, just shy of his personal best while Matt Ramsden ran 13:52.90 in his. Jack Rayner withdrew to prioritise Commonwealth Games. Jakob Ingebrigsten won the final in redemption for the 1500m, just ahead of Jacob Krop of Kenya and Oscar Chelimo of Uganda.
Peter Bol progressed through to the Men’s 800m final to place 7th overall. Joseph Deng withdrew from the heats citing achilles problems.
Catriona Bissett finished with 2:05.20 in the Women’s 800m semi final after a bruising encounter in the heats, with debuts made by Tess Kirsop-Cole and Claudia Hollingsworth.Sarah Klein moved through the field to place 14th in the Women’s Marathon in a personal best time of 2:30:10

246: World Champs Week 1
Sean Quilty, Olympian and international representative at multiple world championships and Commonwealth Games with personal bests of 1:02:16 in the half marathon and 2:13:32 in the marathon passed away on Saturday 16th July 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Sean is also remembered as a lifetime athlete, and prominent figure of the Victorian Athletic League.Athletics Australia Obituary

World Athletics Championships in Eugene saw a lot of strong performances from plenty of Aussies, starting with the Women’s 1500m where at the time of recording Georgia Griffith & Jessica Hull advanced to final while Linden Hall faced a fast semifinal to finish 4:04.65Amy Cashin posted a 6 second PB of 9:21.46 to move to 4th on the All-Time list of Women’s 3000m Steeplechase, narrowly missing advancing to the final. In the Men's 1500m Heats Matt Ramsden ran 3:39.83, while Oli Hoare made it to the semi final in 3:38.36. Stewart McSweyn marked a near complete return to form as he progressed to the final, running 3:35.07 in the semi final.
In the 3000m Steeplechase Heats, Ed Trippas ran 8:23.83 while Ben Buckingham posted 8:29:15.Jack Rayner placed 19th with 28:24.12 in the 10000m as Joshua Cheptegei defended his title from Doha. Brad recaps his week leading into the Gold Coast Marathon, settling his nerves before pacing Lyndsey Flanagan, then going onto finish in 2:23:26.Julian breaks out from jogging for a while then works through a few obstacles in travelling.Brady works through his own travel obstacles before setting a new personal best of 65:27 in the Gold Coast Half Marathon.
Gold Coast Marathon returns after three years, with Jo Fukuda of Japan winning the marathon in 2:10:15, well clear of countryman Akihiro Kaneko and Belgium’s Amaury Paquet. Louis McAfee in his debut 2:17 took fourth overall and the Oceania Marathon Championship ahead of Samuel Gebremichael and Jacob Cocks.Lyndsey Flanagan of the USA was the winner of th in a Course Record time of 2:24:43, Lisa Weightman second and taking Oceania title and Shiho Kaneshige from Japan came third. Nera Jerab from Western Australia and Anna Kelly from Victoria were second and third respectively for the Oceania Marathon Championship.The Half Marathon on Saturday was won by Brett Robinson in 63:14 ahead of Ed Goddard and Tim Vincent. Brad changes plans in response to his body and runs a solid workout in the Launceston Half Marathon.Brady has deja vu with his watch as he sets a 10k PB at Launceston as he recaps his race.Julian recovers from the previous week and gets some runs out with Surf Coast Track Club.
There were fast times at the Launceston Running Festival, with Brett Robinson taking the win in the half marathon in 1:01:56 despite some less than ideal weather conditions at the start, ahead of Liam Adams and Joel Tobin-White. Sinead Diver won the half marathon in 1:11:14, clear of Abigail Nordberg and Vanessa WilsonJess Stenson took out the 10km setting a Course Record of 31:49, and joined the show to chat about the race, her current training and plans moving ahead. Leanne Pompeani and Eloise Wellings rounded out the podium. Launceston local James Hansen won the men’s 10k race in 28:49 over Kieren Perkins and Riley Cocks.

Georgia Griffith took out the win in Jessheim, Norway setting a long awaited 1500m PB in 4:03.95, paced by Box Hill teammate Ellie Sanford.
Georgia then backed it up by setting another 1500m personal best of 4:00.16 at the Rabat Diamond League meet, moving to #3 on the all-time list and creating a potential quandary for championship selection. Aussies at the Pre Classic at the Eugene Diamond League included Matt Ramsden 13:17.11 posting a season’s best as did Brett Robinson 13:21.59 in the Men’s 5000m.Oli Hoare took second in the Bowerman Mile at the Pre Classic in 3:50.65 just behind Jakob Ingebrigsten and ahead of Timothy Cheriuyot.
