Recorded during her hospital-hotel quarantine, now three-time Olympic steeplechaser Genevieve Gregson chats with Julian on her career, starting back from 2012 where she was an initial non-selection for the Olympics based on Athletics Australia selection and the gratitude for John Coates getting her across the line. Gen explains the quarantine and surgery arrangements that were made and how she’s dealing with recovery so far, going into the type of surgery being made, and the support from fans and articles to support the comeback success stories.
Gen & Julian do a deep dive on the technique, training and physicality required to succeed in the steeplechase, what made her proficient in the steeplechase, background and getting into the event at the University of Florida. From there they go into the recap of the Tokyo Olympic Steeplechase final, to that rupture on the last barrier and Gen’s instant thoughts and reaction on impact, going through the wave of emotions in that water jump from the time and energy put in versus the rewards at the end, reliving the previous lowpoint at the crossroads in 2019, then getting into the Doha World Championships off cross training. From there they assess the reasoning behind Gen’s injury history, combined with racing on form and frequency.
This deep conversation wraps up how Gen goes about leveraging social media presence for branding and what resources are available for athletes, a peek into Gen’s future transitioning into longer distances, her post-professional running and getting involved at a grassroots level and joining the team at Puma.https://www.instagram.com/p/CSdBvKKh8jp/
