318: Zatopek:10 2023 | Valencia & Fukuoka Marathons | New National Records
Brad begins chasing segments and sells his investment property.Julian links up with Toby for a workout and Ellie for a big family run.Brady jumps on the mic at Zatopek before taking out the Wellness Run 10k.

Irish 1500m record holder Andrew Corscoran crashed the party to take out Zatopek:10 in 27:56.37, ahead of Jack Rayner who took out his third consecutive 10000m National Championship in 27.57.87 ahead of Pat Tiernan who lead the tempo for most of the race.Lauren Ryan won her first 10000m National Championship in a race where the pace stemmed and flowed several times to win ahead of Holly Campbell and the pre-race favourite Rose Davies.Matt Ramsden outlasted Jessie Hunt and Cameron Myers in the 3000m for a photo finish win in 8:00.20. Maudie Skyring announced herself to win the Open 3000m in 8:55.39, pulling away from Irish runner Jodie McCann and Box Hill’s Stella Radford.

Gen Gregson leads the Australian contingent at Valencia Marathon to lower her personal best by over 5 minutes to 2:23:08 to finish 8th place overall, ahead of Izzy Batt-Doyle who ran 2:23:27 for 10th place,  Lisa Weightman in 2:24:18 for 13th and Eloise Wellings a 2:25:47 for 26th. Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia won in 2:15:51 ahead of Almaz Ayana.Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia is now the 4th fastest ever marathon runner of all time setting the new Course Record of 2:01:48 for victory, lowering the mark set by Kelvin Kiptum last year while Keninisa Bekele was fourth 2:04:19 in a World Masters Record. Pat Tiernan returns to the show and chats with Brad about the past few years, changing groups from Oregon Track Club to Puma Elite Running in North Carolina, giving observations on the different coaches he’s run under and adjusting to the training intensity of each group.Pat recaps his 2:11:02 marathon debut in Chicago last year, then dealing with the challenges of injuries at various parts of the year that followed that excluded him the World Championships in Budapest, but then leading into the return to form with his second place in the Boston Half Marathon just weeks ago.
Pat chats about his return to Australia and family and his preparations for Zatopek, what he expects from the race and how it fits into his future plans, weighing up the pathway to qualify for the Paris Olympics via the 10000m against the marathon.He closes out with how the heat in North Carolina compares to Queensland and how he rates the current lineup of Puma shoes.

Ryan Mannix is this week’s guest, chatting to Brady about how he based himself in running before pivoting into the well-known figure within yoga that he is today. Ryan harkens back to his early days getting a lot of running over the hills and his nervousness on the starting line of junior cross country running. It transitions over to meeting one of his idols in Kenya and taking up duathlon around the European circuit, until the fateful accident that left him injured, but ultimately setting him on the path towards his passion in yoga. Ryan shares his insights into some of the techniques and attributes that are pliable to running, as well as the contrasting dynamic it offers.
