2 listener questions ask firstly about the hype around the latest Nike Free, and secondly, what could be done to raise the profile of athletics before Moose On The Loose exploiting the handicapping system in this weekend’s Stawell Gift.
Benita Willis continues her interview with Brad from where she left off last week, talking about the impact her World Cross victory had in the lead up to the Athens Olympics, before carrying an injury into the 10000m.
She talks about life as a full-time athlete, travelling on the international circuit and moving to Boulder and the different coaches and training systems she had over the years as well as running her marathons in 2008 and 2012 and why track speed was an important component of her training before her final marathon at the London Olympics and the decision to retire from professional competition. From there Benita talks openly about the challenges in transitioning from professional athletics into the workforce, getting into coaching and her roles in Queensland Athletics, organising training groups and role as a Gold Coast Marathon ambassador as well as addressing issues in the IAAF Commission, giving her thoughts on the newly implemented ranking system and Diamond League removing 5000m races from the program.
