Ray Boyd, 2:13 Marathoner and Western Australian Principal of the Year Winner joins Brady about his career in distance running and particularly the marathon starting with how his quest to qualify for the Sydney Olympics involved getting to Chicago by winning the Canberra Marathon.

Ray recounts his experiences with the Chicago Marathon that lead to his lifetime personal best, then follows up with running the 2000 Olympic Marathon Trial in Sydney, explaining the challenges with training for a marathon in Perth and the necessity in racing in the eastern states. Ray talks about balancing his high training with his career as a teacher, the reliance on modern technologies and the stories around Falls Creek training camps and the 1995 International Chiba Ekiden, closing with how his retirement from professional sport channelled his energy into teaching and mentions Lee Troop’s cheeky unofficial record at Falls Creek as well as the contemporaries he looked up to and who in Western Australian running excites him.
