On the news of Boston, Moose On The Loose rallies against the celebration of mediocrity and then listener Sam asks about coming off a long layoff and increasing volume or intensity. The boys then preview on the upcoming Chicago Marathon & Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff.
This week’s chat is full of Ballarat running royalty as Steve Moneghetti and Julian Spence chat together, in the first of an epic two-part retrospective on Steve’s life in running, from his junior days to his modern role post-professional career. Steve talks about how the Ballarat cultivated the strong running culture and how coaches Tony Benson and Chris Wardlaw shaped him, as well as the unique circumstances that lead to making his marathon debut in the 1988 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and the chain events that lead to witnessing Benita Willis win the 2000 World Cross Country Championship. Steve opens up on his philosophy around training and periodisation, what it meant to represent Australia on the world stage and the difference between how runners are reinforced and recognised from when he ran to now.
